Born in Brittany, France, to a French father and a Spanish mother, Nicolas Soulatre is a composer currently specializing in film scoring. His musical journey began with a Yamaha keyboard and Erik Satie's Gymnopédie No. 1, an early encounter that sparked a lifelong passion for music and storytelling through sound.
Drawing inspiration from composers and artists such as Ryuichi Sakamoto, Gigi Masin, Caterina Barbieri and Aphex Twin, as well as Latin music and minimalism, Nicolas creates emotionally driven scores that blend acoustic instruments with electronic textures. His music is characterized by atmospheric soundscapes, subtle repetition and a cinematic approach, always serving the emotional core of the story.
Before focusing on composition, Nicolas spent many years performing as a keyboardist and synthesizer player across France and the United Kingdom with bands including Bantam Lyons, The Lightning Year, La Houle, Barbara Rivage and Championne. This extensive live experience shaped his musical language and developed a strong sensitivity to texture, dynamics and collaboration.
Alongside his work as a composer for film and visual media, Nicolas also develops a personal live electronic project under the name al varea, exploring immersive sound worlds where ambient, rhythmic and melodic elements meet.
